Banana split

Use any flavour ice cream you like and decorate as you please.

What you need

5 bananas
8-12 scoops vanilla ice cream
225 g glace cherries
25 g chopped walnuts
225 g chocolate sauce
150 ml double cream
to decorate
4 sprigs fresh mint
3 tsp sifted cocoa powder for sprinkling

Method

  1. Peel the bananas. Cut one banana per person in half lengthways. Arrange 2 halves in each serving dish.

  2. Arrange scoops of vanilla ice-cream down the centre of each dish. Slice the remaining banana and scatter evenly over the ice-cream.

  3. Scatter the cherries, reserving some for decoration, and walnuts over the dish.

  4. Divide the chocolate sauce between the dishes.

  5. Lightly whip the cream until it stands in soft peaks. Spoon a dollop onto the top of each split.

  6. Decorate with the reserved cherries, mint and cocoa powder.

Cook's tip

Any flavour ice cream can be used. And any other sauce could be used. Why not try chocolate and vanilla icecream served with a raspberry sauce.
